‘Billion-dollar Pastor’ surrenders to police
UP TO late yesterday, a pastor facing 38 counts of fraud was in custody at the office of the Fraud Squad in San Fernando because he was unable to secure $4.5 million bail. At about 1.30 pm, the pastor, for whom a warrant had been issued on Friday, surrendered to the Fraud Squad at the San Fernando Police Adminis-tration Building. He was accompanied by Justice of the Peace Stephen Young, his wife, friends and members of the church. Two bailors were at the station attempting to secure the pastor’s release. However, they did not meet the bail requirements, up to Sunday Newsday press time. Strict conditions have been set for bail for the pastor. He will have to surrender his passport to the police and visit the station in his district once a week. He will also be required to provide all the facts on his land taxes, his water rate and properties he owns. The pastor shot to fame several years ago when he claimed he had inherited billions of dollars from a couple who had died and left him as their sole heir. It is alleged that he obtained several loans from business places on the promise that once he came into all his inheritance he would pay off his debts. On more than one occasion bailiffs visited the pastor’s Chaguanas and Chin Chin homes and church.
