Lara celebrates latest record

THE PALATIAL hillside mansion of West Indies batting superstar Brian Lara was the backdrop for a glittering appreciation function on Saturday night organised by local telecommunications provider TSTT, and the Pearl and Bunty Lara Foundation.

Pearl and Bunty are the first names of Lara’s now deceased parents and in whose honour the foundation was named to assist in charitable causes while TSTT is one of the major sponsors of the left-handed triple world record-holder.

Champagne, an assortment of fine wines and other drinks; and delectable food were provided in copious amounts on a red carpeted gazebo as speaker after speaker heaped kudos on the son of Santa Cruz who has risen to the pinnacle of world cricket.

The specially invited guests were also entertained with cool jazz music from the band Night Life headed by Jeffrey Pattisingh; and a performance by H2OPhlo.

Fittingly the function was titled "11204 Benefit Event" in honour of his most recent achievement late last year in Australia when he surpassed Allan Border’s record for the most runs scored in Test cricket. He also holds the records for the highest score in Test cricket (400 not out) and First Class game (501). He also has taken the most catches by a West Indian in Tests.
