No fungus detected at chicken farms
The Ministry of Agriculture yesterday reported that the tests done at six farms have returned a negative result for aspergillosis, a fungal infection among birds. This was disclosed by the ministry’s communications specialist, Brent Bain, who also noted that the Poultry Surveillance Unit (PSU) was awaiting test results from samples taken last Thursday at the Nutrimix hatchery. The PSU is expected to return to the hatchery in Barrackpore today to take more samples. The PSU has been attempting to trace the source of aspergillosis at two farms in Cumuto and Valencia. The six farms received chicks from the same batch as the Valencia farm which lost 170 chicks to aspergillosis last week.
