10 locals for Soca Warriors camp
ONLY 10 locally-based players will join six from the United States in Ft Lauderdale, Miami, for a five-day training camp in preparation for World Cup Germany 2006. Soca Warriors coach Leo Beenhakker decided to include midfielder Aurtis Whitley, Anthony Wolfe, Atiba Charles, Jan Michael Williams, Kerry Baptiste, Errol McFarlane jr, Anthony Rougier, Nigel Henry, Silvio Spann and Cyd Gray for the training camp as he prepares the team for their Carnival Tuesday (February 28) friendly international against Iceland. The camp at the Sunrise Hilton and Training Centre will run from February 1 to February 6. The overseas contingent comprise Anthony Noreiga, Julius James, Kevon Neaves, Osei Telesford, Darryl Roberts and Quevas Kirk whose father is Trinidadian, but has made 34 starts with the US Under-17s. Topscorer in 2004 with 11goals, the 17-year-old striker was drafted by MLS champions Los Angeles Galaxy in the recent MLS Superdraft. Cornell Glen, Avery John and Scott Sealy all attached to MLS clubs were not considered for this camp as they are all reporting back to their clubs for pre-season training. Brent Rahim who was part of Saturday’s local training sessions is also heading off to Dallas FC from February 4. Beenhakker will be accompanied to Ft Lauderdale by assistant coaches Wim Rijsbergen and Anton Corneal, physiotherapist Zeph Nicholas, goalkeeper coach Michael Maurice, equipment manager Ikin Williams, manager Bruce Aanensen and his assistant George Joseph.
