PANORAMA PRELIMS START FEBRUARY 3
When Panorama preliminary judging starts in panyards next Friday, 14 of the registered bands will play the tune "Colours Again" composed by Mark Loquan/Keron Boodoosingh/Joel "Zan" Feveck and sung by Destra Garcia. Twelve bands will perform Winston "The Original De Fosto Himself" Scarborough’s "Bradley" while seven have opted for Mark Loquan/Chris Morris "Good Times" with vocals by Denyse Plummer. Other 2006 songs chosen by the bands include "Tempo (Remix)," "This One Is For You Bradley," "High On Pan," "Max It Up," "Enough Is Enough" and Judgment Day." In addition, music by Kitchener, Sparrow, Scrunter, Baron, Merchant, Maestro, Black Stalin and Super Blue are among the works being performed. Instituted in 2002, preliminary judging will once again take place in panyards and venues across Trinidad and Tobago over a period of six days from which 42 bands will be selected for the National Semi- finals. On Friday evening, Single Pan Bands in the North, Medium Conventional Bands in South/Central and Small Conventional Bands in the East will be judged by separate panels of adjudicators. All judging starts at 7 pm. Bands in all categories will be able to select and perform any Calypso from the current year, or any previous year, as long as the band has not played the composition in a Panorama competition. Arrangers will be allowed to work with no more than one band in each category in 2006. The National Semi-finals for Small, Medium and Large Conventional steelbands will be held on Sunday, February 12, at the Queen’s Park Savannah, starting at 9 am, while Single Pan Bands’ turn will be at Victoria Square on Saturday, February 18. Panorama 2006 has been labelled "A Tribute to Clive Bradley."
