10 ‘Soca Warriors’ off to Miami
A SQUAD of 10 "Soca Warriors" leave here today for Miami to begin preparation for World Cup Germany 2006. Members of the squad will be met by national coach Leo Beenhakker at Fort Lauderdale, and will start a training camp at Sunrise Hilton until February 6. Beenhakker has scheduled his first training session for tomorrow morning at the hotel’s field which has been used by US teams, other countries and clubs in the past. The coach will work with this group of players which has been trimmed by one, after LA Galaxy forward Quavas Kirk was forced to withdraw due to injury during a training stint with his club. Those off to Miami from Piarco today are, Aurtis Whitley, Anthony Wolfe, Atiba Charles, Jan Michael Williams, Kerry Baptiste, Errol McFarlane jr, Anthony Rougier, Nigel Henry, Silvio Spann, Cyd Gray. They will be joined by invited US-based players Anthony Noreiga, Julius James, Kevon Neaves, Osei Telesford, Darryl Roberts. Team manager Bruce Aanensen confirmed all was in place for the camp and Beenhakker will have a look at some new faces and also get other "Soca Warriors" members fine-tuned ahead of the Carnival Tuesday (February 28) friendly international against Iceland at Elland Road, England. Also accompanying the squad will be assistant coaches Wim Rijsbergen and Anton Corneal, goalkeeping coach Michael Maurice, physiotherapist Zeph Nicholas, equipment manager Ikin Williams, assistant manager George Joseph and press officer Shaun Fuentes.
