What about Chandra’s safety box?
ATTORNEY Odai Ramischand has written to Attorney General John Jeremie asking that the contents of the safety deposit box owned by murdered Dr Chandra Naraynsingh be given to the person or persons lawfully entitled to them. In a letter dated February 6 2006, Ramischand pointed out that he was acting for Chandra at the time of her murder on June 29, 1994. “Naraynsingh had given us certain instructions with respect to her bank safety deposit box.” Ramischand said he read in a Sunday Newsday article that the police took possession of a tape after execution of a warrant and the opening of Chandra’s safety deposit box.
He continued, “We are now to inform you that Naraynsingh had instructed us that in addition to the tape, she had stored in the safety deposit box at Republic Bank, Trincity branch, several items of expensive jewelry and foreign exchange, mostly in Canadian and US dollars.” Ramischand reminded the Attorney General, that he, being the guardian of the rights of citizens and nationals of Trinidad and Tobago, should look into the matter and ensure that the items of jewelry and foreign exchange are accounted for, and given to the person or persons lawfully entitled to them.
