Crown Point to mount ‘Tangelwood’ challenge

TOBAGO-BRED champion three-year-old colt Crown Point will be in the line-up for the Tangelwood Stakes and Trophy in neighbouring Barbados. According to a well-placed source, the third and final subscription fee of $300 has been sent off to the Barbados Turf Club to ensure the son of Freshly Squeezed/Bands O’Gold challenges for the top prize in the 2000 metres race to be run on March 4, Barbados Gold Cup Day. Owners Peter Hackett and Ainsley Mark paid a Bds$900 penalty at the second subscriptions stage for Crown Point who narrowly missed the local Triple Crown in September last year.

The Glenn Mendez-trained star will join Miss Lover Lover as the only two runners from Trinidad and Tobago to race at the Garrison Savannah. Edmund de Freita-trained Miss Lover Lover will launch an assault on the 25th running of the prestigious Sandy Lane Gold Cup. Already, De Freitas has his five-year-old American-bred mare in training, going clock-wise (right handed) on the turf course to coincide with the Garrison track. At the final declaration stage for the Gold Cup there were 13 runners left in, including last year’s winner Feet On Flames. And Crown Point is among 15 for which second subscriptions have been paid up for the Tangelwood.

Here are the runners in the Gold Cup: ATUL (P); BIRDIE POINT; DUC D FER; FEET ON FLAMES; INLUCK; LIONS DOMAIN; MINNESOTA; PEACE ANGEL; SHARP IMPACT; STORM HUNTER; ZARAD; MISS LOVER LOVER; COURAGEOUS KING.
Those for which second subscriptions have been paid in the Tangelwood:
