Chutney singer held for false DP
IN a massive police exercise yesterday, police arrested a popular Chutney/Soca artiste for possession of a false driver’s permit. The singer will appear in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court today to answer a charge of fraud. He was also charged with driving without insurance. The Soca/Chutney singer was arrested yesterday in a massive police exercise in San Fernando and environs conducted by Traffic Branch police and licensing officers of the Southern Division. More than 100 motorists were issued traffic tickets during the exercise which, according to a police report, began at 10.30 am. The exercise was conducted by Insp Baldeo, Sgt Ali, and Cpls Ramdhanie, Boodram and Jankienanan. The report stated that the singer was driving his vehicle with a broken licence plate. This aroused the suspicion of licensing officers who stopped the vehicle along Southern Main Road, Marabella. On the request of licensing officers, the artiste produced his driver’s permit, but they found it to be of an unusual size and style. The singer was unable to produce an insurance certificate, the report stated. According to the report, police officers took the singer to the Licensing Office in San Fernando, where they checked information. The report stated that licensing officers discovered that no driver’s permit had been issued under the singer’s name and address. He was taken to the San Fernando Police Station yesterday where he was charged with possession of fraudulent documents for having a false driver’s permit; driving without certificate of insurance, and driving without a driver’s permit. The charges were laid by Cpl Vijay Ramdhanie.
