UK fans gear up for Warriors
TICKETS for that Carnival Tuesday (February 28) international friendly between the Soca Warriors and Iceland at Loftus Road, are selling like the proverbial "hot bread." This according to Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation’s international relations consultant Mike Berry who arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday. Berry said there is an expected large contingent of United Kingdom-based and Caribbean fans. "Everything is setting up very nicely for a very exciting occasion at Loftus Road. We intend to make it similar to what Carnival Tuesday will be like back in Trinidad, and I think the fans who are away from Trinidad are eagerly awaiting the chance to be close to their team," Berry said. The Soca Warriors are scheduled to arrive at Heathrow Airport, London on February 26. It will be the first match the "Soca Warriors" will be playing since their 1-0 victory over Bahrain in Manama, which pitchforked them into World Cup Germany 2006, the first time ever Trinidad and Tobago were qualifying for the finals. As an incentive, the Soca Warriors will be aiming to take the on the TDC Pre-World Cup, sponsored by the Tourism Development Company which will be at stake Following this match, FIFA vice-president and TTFF advisor Jack Warner has arranged through his contacts with the English FA for the Soca Warriors to attend the friendly international between England and Uruguay at Liverpool’s Anfield Ground. Meanwhile, TDC’s UK head Nova Alexander said several plans are in place to make the Soca Warriors visit a memorable one.
