Crash victim laid to rest
THE driver of the vehicle in the Saturday night crash which claimed the lives of three young men on the South Trunk Road in La Romaine, was buried yesterday. Scores of mourners turned up at the South Oropouche home of teenager Imran Asif Hasmatally. Hasmatally, 19, a mechanic, was heading into San Fernando in a blue Hyundai Accent with three friends, when he lost control of the car and skidded off the road. The car slammed into a pommecythere tree, and all four were pinned inside the vehicle. Hasmatally and Joseph Ivan, 16, died on the spot. Ravi Sieunarine, 18, died at hospital, while Anil Ramjass, 17, was listed in a critical condition yesterday at San Fernando General Hospital. Yesterday, mourners began trickling in at Hasmatally’s home at St John’s Road, South Oropouche, from 1.30 pm. The body arrived at the house at 3.15 pm. A brief service was held under Muslim rites and Hasmatally was laid to rest at St John’s Cemetery.
