‘Under the weather’ Ginuwine promises Glow appearance

Amid rumours that he was too ill to host and perform at last night’s sixth edition of the "Glow" fete titled "Exotica," Sony recording artiste Ginuwine yesterday assured Newsday that he would in fact host the fete, in addition to sharing the stage with local stars Bunji Garlin and 2Ntrigue for the soca remix of his song "Secrets."

"Yeah, I’ll be there tonight," assured the singer, as he spoke with Newsday from the first floor balcony of the Hilton Trinidad.

"You see, what’s happening is that I’m feeling like I’m coming down with the cold but it’s nothing major. I’ll be there."

The star, who was marked to host and perform at the fete along with local stars Destra Garcia, Shurwayne Winchester, Denise Belfon, Maximus Dan and Faye-Ann Lyons, said it was possible that the drastic climate change between the United States of America and TT was one of the factors causing him to feel "under the weather." He noted that germs in the air may have also brought about his flu-like symptoms.

Commenting on his experience in Trinidad and Tobago as a foreigner, he admitted that it was his first time on Trinbagonian soil and, while he had not experienced all aspects of the country, his stay was so far enjoyable, if uneventful.

He said, "Well, it’s my first time here and I mean it’s nice but because of the rainy weather and all that nice stuff, I haven’t had the opportunity to really go out and see the country."

He also commented on the local music, admitting that while he had heard some of it, he held no overpowering desire to record a Calypso or soca song of his own, but said that he was open to collaborating with stars in those genres.

"I’ve been hearing about your music and I know right now it’s Carnival.

I heard the music on the radio and stuff but I haven’t yet really gotten into it.

But I mean, if people are willing to collaborate with me like Bunji and 2Ntrigue, I mean, I’m more than willing."

Ginuwine’s parting words were directed at his fans. He expressed his gratitude to the local fanbase and said he was excited to see them at the concert.

"I love you. Thanks for the support over the last ten years. Hopefully I’ll continue to receive such great support. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all later tonight."
