Kings semi-finals washed out
INCLEMENT weather on Tuesday evening forced the postponement of the King of Carnival semi-final show at the Queens Park Savannah. Some 20 costumes were up for competition for a place in the finals on Dimanche Gras. Also postponed was the finals of the Junior Carnival Queen. National Carnival Commission (NCC) chairman Kenny da Silva announced the postponement came when rain and gusty winds did not let up. Consultant to the National Carnival Bandleaders Association (NCBA) and National Carnival Commission (NCC), Arden Knox, explained why the two organisations decided to call off the event by saying, "the stage was impossible to parade on, as the rain made it slippery." In addition, on the ramp there was much talk of the risk of the rain ruining some of the costumes. Organisers and competitors were likely to be in a very cautious mood on Tuesday following the falling over of Poison’s King Kano Carpette who portrayed "Mr Sandman" in last Thursday’s preliminaries. The Kings of Carnival semi-final show will be held tomorrow alongside the Carnival Queen Semi-Finals. In addition, both the Junior Kings and Queens will also parade on Friday. Knox said to accommodate the four different competitions on one night, the show would kick off at 7 pm.
