Lara bowls first ball


MULTIPLE world record-holder Brian Lara will bowl the first ball of an exhibition match today at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain Couva, to signal a handing over of two all-purpose cricket pitches to the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) by Cable and Wireless.


Function starts at 11.30 am and it will be followed by an exhibition match in which a team led by former West Indies wicket keeper Deryck Murray will face a side captained by the Cricket Board’s first vice president Dud-nath Ramkessoon.


The teams will comprise a number of present and past national players, as well as members of the media.


Murray’s team will include South East Zone official Azim Bassarath, Newsday’s Francis Joseph, Adrian Barath, Don Lee of 100.1 FM and official cricket scorer Rohit Balkissoon.


Ramkessoon will have on his team Omar Khan, the board’s secretary Forbes Persad, executive Richard De Souza, News-day’s Reporter Walter Alibey and Channel Three’s cameraman Mano Ragbir.


Notable omissions are self-styled leading cricket scribes Naz Yacoob, Vinode Mamchan and Everard Gordon.
