13 held at roadblock


THIRTEEN people, including a woman, were held during an early morning roadblock in the Arima area yesterday.


Ten were held on outstanding warrants, while one man was detained for disorderly conduct, another for possession of ammunition and another for possession of drugs. The arrested persons ranged in ages from 16 to 32. The woman is 25 years old.


The exercise, coordinated by Insp Daniel, included Insp Sharpe, Sgt Hamilton and Cpl Winston, began at 6.45 am and ended at noon.


Police sources told Newsday that the roadblock is part of their Carnival crime prevention initiative. They said the exercise will continue throughout the weekend and into Ash Wednesday.


Similar exercises were being undertaken in the Western and Northeastern Divisions up to press time.
