Dad braves raging flames to save baby
A 30-YEAR-OLD man played hero to his six-month-old baby daughter when he rescued her from their burning house in South Trinidad on Monday. Thomas Caldero lost more than $70,000 in household possessions as well as the two vehicles parked in his garage. Caldero said that he and his wife, Yasmin, 26, their three-year-old son Devin and six-month-old baby Gabriella had just returned from the market at 11.30 am on Monday. Caldero and his family occupy one of two apartments at Pond Street, Aripero, near South Oropouche. Caldero said they were in the house when their neighbour ran out of his apartment shouting "Fire! Fire!" Caldero said, "The baby was sleeping on the couch in the hallway and I run in the house for she." Caldero said that without a second thought, he ran into the house which was enveloped in smoke and flames. He said he picked up Gabriella and ran out of the apartment.
