Escaped prisoner recaptured —
His dash for freedom was shortlived when he was shot in the right leg by police officers.
The police claimed that prisoner Kzon Fernando, 21, attacked them with a knife, and they shot him in self-defence.
Reports revealed that at about 10 am yesterday, Fernando scaled the prison wall and escaped.
He was pursued by a group of prison officers who also sought back-up from police officers.
Officers from the E-999 unit and the Police Highway Patrol responded.
CEPEP worker, David Wilson who witnessed the capture of the prisoner, said he was cleaning the street at Fitzgerald Lane, opposite Tranquillity Government Secondary School, when an armed police officer started shouting, “Allyuh see anybody over here?”
He then saw the prisoner clad in a white jersey and blue pants jump over a wall with police officers in hot pursuit.
Wilson said he heard three shots and then shouts from police officers, “We get him; we get him.”
“The bleeding prisoner was dragged from where he was held, kicked several times and beaten in full view of a group of people who had gathered,” said Wilson.
