COMMONWEALTH GAMES: Kirk fourth in 800m
The 25-year-old, who started the race in lane six, crossed the finish line in one minute 47.45 seconds, behind Kenya’s Alex Kipchirchir Rono, who recorded a winning time of 1:45.88, Canada’s Achraf Tadili 1:46.93 and another Kenyan John Litei Nkamasiai 1:46.98.
Aaron Armstrong was the other national finalist yesterday, as he placed fifth in the men’s 200m in 20.61. A photo-finish was required to separate the duo of Jamaican Omar Brown and Mauritius’ Stephan Buckland, who both clocked 20.47.
But Brown was adjudged as the winner, with fellow Jamaican Chris Williams third in 20.52 and Australian Patrick Johnson fourth in 20.59.
Earlier in the day, Armstrong placed second in the first “semi”, also with a time of 20.59.
Marsha Bullen-Jones failed to advance to the final of the women’s 10m air pistol final after she placed 17th in the qualifiers with 363 points.
Veteran Norris Gomez was 28th in the open full bore qualification with 387.32 points, one place ahead of countryman Carl Awong who tallied 385.34.
And TT’s squash tandem of Joshua Pinard and Colin Ramasra lost their final match in the men’s doubles prelims, 9-4, 9-3, 9-1 to New Zealand’s Campbell Grayson and Martin Knight.
Trinidad and Tobago participants will be in action today in track and field (men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay heats), hockey (against Canada in the ninth-place playoff) and shooting (men’s skeet qualification).
