Army make up netball ground

The Army-Coast Guard women never trailed in Tuesday’s match at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, leading 10-4; 25-11; 36-18 at the quarter stages.

Karlene Sylvester was in good shooting form scoring 43 goals from 64 attempts and Donna Chase got six from 10 for the winners.

T’shura Smart got 13, Tricia Roberts (6), Kathleen Antonine (5) and Juliet Savary (one) got goals for Fire.

But Police had to struggle throughout for an exciting 36-34 victory over lowly Cilnetres.

Police led 11-5 at the end of the opening stanza, but Cilnetres battled back relentlessly to knot up the scores 16-16 at the half-time interval.

The policewomen surged back into the lead at the three-quarter interval 27-24 and they held off a determined rally by the Cilnetres women.

Police got 24 goals from Giselle Norton and Cathy Ann Cain scored 12 while Jeselle Navarro netted 21.

Careen Edwards (12) and Akeida Bascombe (one) scored for Cilnetres.
