Villagers still stunned- Schoolboy killed in accident
These are just some expressions of the suffering and painexperienced by Sumintra Sinanan, mother of Naparimaschoolboy Daylan Sinanan, whowas killed instantly when a vanhit him from behind while he was taking a night stroll with her closeto their Navet Village home, RioClaro, a week ago.
So moved by the death of thisloving and caring 14-year-oldNaparima College schoolboy,that a passionate community notwanting to ever forget him, plant-ed a bougainvillea on the spot hewas killed.
Recalling the short but wonderful life of her son, Sumintra, emphasised his love for learningand concern for his fellow men. “He so much wanted to help hisfamily and others, especially thepeople in the village, that hisambition was to become a lawyermore than anything else,” saidSumintra.
He did not want to miss a dayof school, and five days perweek, he would make the 60 miles journey, starting at 4 ameach morning from his CunapoSouthern Main Road, Navet Village, Rio Claro.
Sinanan was a Form Two stu-dent of Naparima College, SanFernando and the last of three children for his mother, Sumintra Sinanan, 42. He lived with his mother; his brother, Rohan, 20, and 19-year-old sister, Napthali.
Sumintra, a single parent, toldSunday Newsday that she strug-gled every day to make endsmeet just to send her children toschool. Her only means of sur-vival is a small parlour, which shemanages from her yard, “I liveone day at a time, only by God’sgrace.”
Sister Napthali, also talkingabout her deceased brother said, “He loved school, it was his pas-sion. Since he started at Naps, ifhe had missed three days ofschool he had missed plenty.Although he would have an earlystart he would remain energeticthroughout the day.”
Sumintra said her son loved to sing and write songs, and hadeven changed some of the wordsin James Blunt’s song “You’reBeautiful.” The last verse to the song he changed to read: “Theremust be an angel, with a smile onher face, when she thought that I moments Sumintra said, “Daylan had just finished singingthe song for me and just twohouses away we heard a speedingvehicle coming up from behind us.
