Tadpole spins PowerGen to crushing win

Sports to a crushing innings and38 run win over the cellarplaced Joe Public Munroe Road

in the third round of the Carib National League Division One yesterday.

Responding to PowerGen’s first innings score of 352 runs for seven wickets declared at

Syne Village, Penal, Munroe Road were bundled out for 138 with Mohammed grabbing

5/29, ex-national player Samuel Badree 3/52 and WI Under-19 left-arm spinner

Rishi Bachan 2/11. The evergreen left-hander Deonarine Deyal topscored for the visitors

with 67.

With a 214-run lead, PowerGen enforced the followon and, despite a knock of 48 by Kapil Harry and 34 not out by Ancil Bhaggan, Munroe Road were dismissed for 176

with Mohammed claiming 5/28 (match figures 10/57), Farrel Jugmohan 2/32 and Brent

Harriott 2/47.

In the most pulsating fixture on the day, CLICO Preysal earned a 14-run victory over

Ceramic Merry Boys at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground. Chasing a target of

178, the Merry Boys batsmen had no answer to the off-spin of ex-Barbados and WI’s Ryan Hurley, who snared 6/65 (match figures 11/104), while left-arm spinner Anderson Bryce added 3/47. Windies “A” opener Lendl Simmons, who slammed 96 on Saturday, made 62 in a losing cause while Kenton Thompson struck 25.

Earlier in the day, Preysal were bowled out for 170 in their second innings with

Lyndon James hitting 33 and Kishava Ramphal 32, while Aneil Kanhai captured 5/32 and

WI “A” Richard Kelly 2/27.
