Woman blue over fake $100

A Diego Martin woman is accusing a Port-of-Spain bank of giving her a counterfeit $100 bill, after she changed a cheque at the bank last Friday.

Frances Hastick told Newsday that on Saturday, she went to Port-of-Spain to purchase an item at a store when she was told by the manager that the $100 she had tendered was a counterfeit bill. Hastick said she made a report to the West End Police but officers there told her that they could do nothing about the situation.

Yesterday, Hastick returned to the bank and was told that they too could not assist her.

Hastick is unsure of whom to turn to and said that it is unfair that honest, hard working citizens like herself could be robbed so easily.

She is calling on members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with bills and advised them to examine these carefully.
