On Sunday last, Unity the

Masters Division kings edged Open Division champs Real Material 2-1 in an exhibition

match. It signalled the start of the Ricky Raghunanan Scaffolding Contractors Limited-sponsored- Wiltshire Sports Club seven-a-side Hockey Goal Football League.

Colin Cox opened the scoring for Unity, but Learie Taylor knotted up the scores nearing the half-time whistle. But there was no denying the “old men” of Unity and Junior Bailey blasted in the winning goal. This season’s series will see the winners getting $3,000 and a trophy. Runners-up earn $1,000 and third $500. There will be additional prizes for the scorer of most goals, best disciplined team and the Most Valuable Player of the league. Registration fee for the league is $400 per team for the seven-a-side tournament.

Meanwhile, Under-13 and Under-15 action takes place every Saturday and Sunday at the league’s Don Miguel Road Ground, San Juan, from 10 am from April 2.
