Police n-ballers nab Jean Pierre Trophy

The policewomen whipped Defence Force 42-37 an an exciting match at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua on Monday.

In a match which was close throughout, Police led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and still held a three-goal advantage at the halfway stage 19-16.

But the Army-Coast Guard women rallied strongly in the third stanza to take a one-goal lead, outscoring their arch-rivals 13-9 for a 29-28 scoreline.

It was match on in the final quarter, as the lead switched from team to team until Police were just able to edge home.

Donna Elise Charles netted 27 goals from 37 attempts, Euphemia Huggins got 14 of 20 and Gushier Grant one of two for Police, while Tricia Liverpool scored 20 of 28 attempts, Lystra “Twinkletoes” Zamore got nine of 11 and Diana Pierre eight of 13 for Defence Force.

Earlier, the Army-Coast Guard women were again on the losing end, this time in the Alternative Division knockout final. They were beaten 32-28 by Cavaliers who jumped into an early lead and never relinquished it.

Cavaliers led 18-12 at the half-time interval and despite a desperate charge by Defence Force, they managed to hold on. Goal-attack Debra Bain was in tremendous shooting form for Cavaliers scoring 20 of her 22 attempts and goal-shoot Debra Beckles got 12 of 29. Karlene Sylvester netted 26 of 31 attempts and Donna Chase two of seven for Defence Force.
