Southern Games action today
Prime Minister Patrick Manning is expected officially open the proceedings, one of the biggest on the local athletic calendar, from 2 pm. Excitement is promised in cycling as usual, with teams from the United States including our own Simeon Com-missiong; England, Guyana and Canada matching wheels with the local standouts Elisha Greene, Joshua Alexander, Azikwe Kellar and and veteran Gunanese-born TT rider Stephen Mangroo. Added to this there will be top class athletic events including the 1500 and 5000 metres for which St Vincent and Caribbean ace Pamenos Ballantyne, Kevon Pierre and Damion Barry who represented Trinidad and Tobago at the recent Common-wealth Games in Australia are entered. Apart from the cycling and athletics, there will be a Southern Games Queen show and a rhythm section burn out to keep fans alert. Games action continues tomorrow also from 2 pm.
