Sir Ellis collapses at funeral

The incident occurred just as Wilson’s five sons took up their positions as pallbearers of their father’s casket.

Several persons rushed to the assistance of Sir Ellis who lay in a pew while a doctor who was among the mourners attempted to revive him. An ambulance was summoned to the scene but was later sent away.

Sir Ellis, a diabetic, soon regained consciousness and was given a glass of water to drink. His relatives and friends were seen speaking to Sir Ellis in an attempt to ensure that he was coherent.

Sir Ellis laughed heartily with the group that gathered around him and later walked out of St Theresa’s RC Church, accompanied by family and friends, including Professor Courtenay Bartholomew. Neither Sir Ellis nor his entourage was willing to comment on the incident.
