Maritime hosts grand South office function

Atherly was delivering the feature address at the sod-turning ceremony of the insurance giant’s Court Street offices in San Fernando on Saturday night.

Atherly also remarked that the building, which will be known as the Lady McLeod Financial Centre, was one of the most sought after pieces of real estate in San Fernando.

The property is bordered by the Police Headquarters (south administration centre) and the High Court and Magistrates’ Court building.

Maritime Chief Executive Officer, John Smith, noted that the new building would play a pivotal role in it’s delivery of financial services to clients in South Trinidad.

He also gave a Powerpoint presentation on the selection of a name for the building, stating that the centre was named in honour of a freight steamer, the SS Lady McLeod, which was named after the wife of British Governor, Sir Henry McLeod.

Maritime Chief Operating Officer, Earl Wilson, said the company had survived the turbulent 1960s to emerge as a major player in the local insurance industry with an asset base of $1.1 billion.

San Fernando West MP Diane Seukeran also attended the ceremony.
