The Princes Town school, which is set to celebrate its Golden Year next year, was also the winner of the last competition held in 1995 and were first runners up in 1994.
The team of form four students, headed by Margaret Dailey, Economics and Principles of Business teacher, copped the first prize of $4,000 towards the school and the challenge trophy donated by Nicholas Development Group, with a total of 150 points.
Dailey admitted to being “very proud” of her students Kelly Roopchand, Emmanuel Boodoo, Rochel Thomas and Keris Ramkaran, especially since they were able to keep atop the competition in the face of present mock exams. The vibrant teenagers were relieved that the competition was over and stated that their biggest challenge was Queens Royal College.
The most outstanding student throughout the competition however, was 15 year old, Sergio Sandy of Holy Cross College, who claimed that he was actually vying for the Angostura Holdings Limited prize for most outstanding student. Sandy placed third in end of term exams in Principles of Business with eighty three percent. He reluctantly admitted that the reason for his team missing the first place award was “stage fright.” He further stated that the team had only one month to prepare for the competition and met only during their “free periods.” He plans to further studies in Economics and open a car dealership in the future.
Wendell Long, Business teacher at Holy Cross was exuberant that his all male team, Sergio Sandy, Adrian Molino, Randolph Boodhoo and Joel Robin, had made it to second place with 120 points, since this was their first entry into the competition.
