Couva cops to be disciplined
Yesterday, Head of the Central Division Snr Supt Barnette Mayers confirmed that the notices were served on the four officers, which specify that disciplinary action will be taken.
Pauline Lumfai, the mother of murder victim Sean Luke had complained to the media that when Sean went missing on March 26 she contacted the Couva Police Station and was allegedly told by the officers that she was wasting their time. Officers there denied the allegation, saying that they told Lumfai that the matter was referred to officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and it was now in their hands.
Lumfai reported the matter to officials at the American Embassy since Sean Luke was American. She said that it was only then that officers began to take her report seriously. Police Commissioner Trevor Paul promised to launch an investigation into the matter. He said that officers of the Police Complaints Division were investigating the matter and if the officers were guilty of the allegations they would be dealt with.
