bandits give victim $5 for passage
Other patrons at Jaiwantee’s Bar at Cuche Village were not so lucky, police said yesterday. The bandits, one armed with a gun and the other a cutlass, not only robbed the patrons but planassed (beat with the flat side of a cutlass) two of them.
The incident took place on Monday night when Marino, six other patrons and the bartender were robbed of an estimated $1,835 in cash, jewelry and cellphones.
The bandits also snatched $1,700 from a cash register.
A police report stated that at about 10.30 pm, Jenny Sargeant was attending to customers at the bar when two men, dressed in dark clothes with the word “police” emblazoned on their jerseys, stormed the premises and announced a hold-up.
The bandits ordered Sargeant and the patrons to lie on the floor while they grabbed their cash and possessions.
The police report stated that the patrons — all from Cuche Village — were Marino, 40; Andrew Daniel, 38; Berutha Babb, 30; Trevor Blake (age not given); Nesha Scott, 31; Rudolph Elbourne, 48, and Octave Diaz, 43.
Elbourne and Diaz were planassed about their heads, neck and back, the report stated. Police said when the bandits took Marino’s $10, he pleaded with them that it was all he had for transport back home. One of the bandits, the report stated, handed Marino $5.
Police said the bandits escaped in a waiting vehicle.
Acting Cpl Williams, of the Biche Police Station, is investigating.
