Gymnast wins gold in Pennsylvania

This follows on the heels of two recent very successful events and the visit of top American coach Tim Rand. They have also been basking in the aftermath of the tenth Annual Invitational Meet sponsored by Children’s Advil.

Now comes the news that ten-year-old Thema Williams who is Trinidad and Tobago’s only Level Eight competitor, took first place in The Friendship Classic International Meeting in Pennsylvania, USA last Saturday. Williams topped 17 other gymnasts with an amazing all-around score of 37.25.

She was first on the un-even bars (9.525); first on the floor (9.6); second on vault (9.025) and second on balance beam (9.1). Her bar score was the highest of the entire Level Eight (irrespective of age) and her floor score was the second highest.

Coach Clifton Mc Dowell spoke with Tots and Tumblers official Annette Telfer yesterday and said that Thema brought down the house with her fantastic floor routine. He also reported that she had an outstanding competition.

Williams, who was nominated by the Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Gymnastics Association for Sportswoman of the Year, has once again proved herself to be an outstanding gymnast with great potential.

Tots and Tumbler’s Level 4 gymnasts also competed in Pennsylvania and they too proved their worth.

Sydney Robinson had the highest Level 4 uneven bar score placing second All-Around as did Aaleya Chandler while Lauren Scott and T’kia Gill both took bronze medals in the same event. Hanna Bocas medalled on the vault with a second place.
