Eastern Caribbean flying on Category One status

The US FAA regularly audits Civil Aviation Authorities around the globe to ensure that they fall in line with US aviation regulations.

By achieving a higher category, the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) has ensured that airline operators from the region will have greater access to the US markets.

Trisha Kalloo, the ECCAA’s director of finance and administration, said the creation of a regional civil aviation authority was crucial to the change in status.

“In addition to that we had to have legislation passed through all of the OECS member states as well as the civil aviation act,” Kalloo explained. “It opens so many doors to expansion of tourism in this industry,” she said.
