Natalia Thrills Barbados
The sweetness of Dopwell’s lyric soprano voice opened the prestigious Barbados Holders’s Season, singing the solo verses of Mozart’s “Requiem” with the Myriad Singers of Barbados. Dopwell then performed her programme of Mozart concert and operatic arias captivating the audience with her charm and artistry. A performer who moves and enchants her audience with her exquisite voice and portrayal, Dopwell’s rendition of “An Chloe”, a love song, and Pamina’s aria “Ach, ich fuhl’s” from “The Magic Flute”, were high points of a most memorable evening. Dopwel held her own in the distinguished company of Britain’s Chloe Hanslip who with accompanist Charles Owen thrilled the crowd especially when, leaving Mozart for her last piece, Chloe chose to play the beautiful “Meditation from Thais” by Jules Massenet. This year’s opening concert of the Holders’ Season broke all records for an opening night performance. Returning to New York to complete her second year of studies at Mannes College of Music, Dopwell has thrown herself into her work of preparing for the Mannes Opera Workshop’s end of year concert. She will be performing the role of Michaela in scenes from Bizet’s Carmen before returning home for her “summer” holidays and fund-raising concert series with British virtuoso violinist, Oliver Lewis at the end of June.
