Starwars score NSL cricket upset
Starwars, in search of their second victory in the series, won the toss and sent in Apaches who got a great start with Harrinarine Ganga making 20 runs and skipper Kenrick Kalliecharan chipping in with 48.
Their 50-run partnership came in only five overs to lay the foundation of a huge total.
With the fall of Ganga for 50, All Apaches struggled to come to terms with the bowling of the Starwars three-some — Imtiaz Razack, Rodney Gangoo and Valmon Motilal who took two wickets each to reduce All Apaches to 185 for eight in 27 overs.
Their next best batsman was Sheldon Ganga who scored 35 runs.
Starwars, knowing that they had a modest score to chase, started with a 22-run partnership for the first wicket and eventually reached 64 for two for the second wicket in the 11th over.
However, with the fall of the second wicket, opener Ravi Maharaj with a defiant 41 runs and Fareed Hosein with 63, shared in a 76 run partnership carrying them to 167 for three in the 22nd over.
Clarence Persad chalked up quickfire 36 runs with four sixes to catapult his team to victory with six wickets in hand reaching their victory target of 186 for four in the 24th over to the dismay of the All Apaches supporters.
The best bowler for All Apaches was Dave Mohammed who took two for 26 in six overs.
In the Central Zone, Central Outsiders Cricket Club scored a resounding victory over Hardbargain winning by 165 runs at Hardbargain.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, Outsiders lost their first wicket at 19 runs on the board, but were again dominating with their prolific opener, Anand Sookram scoring a whirlwind 84 runs with 13 sixes. Navindra Krishna made 38 runs.
Hardbargain after taking their second wicket with 125 runs on the board, were put to the sword as John Devindra chalked up a bust 129 runs with ten sixes and ten fours sharing a third wicket partnership of 196 runs to propel Outsiders to 365 for five wickets in 30 overs.
The best bowler for Hardbargain was Anand Ramgobin who took two for 62 in six overs.
Hardbargain, facing their biggest target of the championships, lost their first wicket at 12 but were given some hope by Rakesh Ramkharan who hit an entertaining 92 with seven sixes and seven fours.
He shared in a second wicket partnership of 125 runs with his partner Al Pascal who made 38 runs to rescue them somewhat.
But Outsiders, showing what depth they had in their bowling rocked back the Hardbargain batsmen taking the last eight wickets for 62 runs dismissing them to 201 in the 20th over.
The best bowler for Ousiders was Devindra Krishna who took four for 58 in six overs.
In the South West Zone, defending Knock-Out Champs Petrotrin Penal, playing at home versus City Boys of New Grant were led by the inform Timmy Subnaik who scored 80 runs to send his individual tally of runs to over 400 runs in the series so far.
Electing to bat , Petrotrin Penal after losing their first two wickets at 41 runs on the board were entertained with a 113 run partnership between Mahendra Ganga who scored 40 runs and Timmy Subnaik with 80.
With the fall of their third wicket at 161 runs, City Boys tightened the screws on Petrotrin reducing them to 214 for seven in their allotted 30 overs thanks to some fine swing bowling from James Vialva who took three for 26 in six overs.
Chasing a respectable score of 215 to win, City Boys got a flyer as their opening pair of Shareed Mohammed with 37 and Jessel Ali with 15 shared in a 48 run opening partnership to lay the foundation for a good chase.
But Petrotrin Penal knocked over the next nine City Boys wickets for the addition of only 53 runs with some impressive bowling from Robindra Bridglal, Shawn Mackhan and Shane Mungroo who took three wickets each to reduce City Boys to 91, their lowest total of the series.
