Fortunate Flag makes waves all the way
From the off in the 1100 metres event on the turf course, champion jockey Wilmer Galviz hustled the six-year-old American-bred horse into the lead.
The favourite tracked the leader throughout, but when jockey Sheldon Rodrigo issued his challenge, he found the winner was not stopping.
Earlier in the co-feature Handicap 1 & Lower race over 1300 metres, Dauntless Hero hacked his field winning by six clear lengths ahead of Latonia.
Apprentice Nela Mohammed had yet another good day in the saddle, sharing riding honours with Joshua Stephen and in the process scoring his 60th victory and so having his claim reduced to one kilo.
The honours among the trainers went to defending champion (wins) John O’Brien who saddled two winners.
With the very small fields, dividends on the day were moderate with the best on the tote being on Sequin winner of the third race, a Conditional Handicap C.
The Grant Lourenco-trained filly rewarded backers with $16.00 and $4.80.
Best superfecta on the day came on the 2Sharp, Preffered Share, Fortheloveofit, Lord Arazi combination — $1,269.00.
In this one, Fortheloveofit passed the post second, but was relegated to third after an objection.
Next race day is Easter Monday, April 17.
