TT swimmers third in B’dos

Entering the final day trailing leaders Bahamas by 21 points, the French Antilles — comprising swimmers from Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana — rushed to the top of the championship standings after scoring two wins, plus two second-place finishes and a third in the relays. They surged to the front in the points race and finished with 880, a mere 7.5 points ahead of the Bahamas (872.5), followed by Trinidad and Tobago in third with 745.5 points.

Jamaica, whose Alia Atkinson was star of the meet with 11 gold medals, placed fourth with 695 points, followed by Suriname (384) and hosts Barbados, who placed sixth with 254 points.

The Jamaicans also celebrated water polo success by capturing both the boys and girls titles. (CMC)
