Trainer de Silva Jr fined $500, banned

Following tests by the analytical chemist, Oxyphenbutone was found in urine sample 10454, taken from Royal Miss after her victory in the Starter Allowance race over 1600 metres on the turf course on February 24, Day 6 of the Arima Race Club 2006 season.

According to Trinidad and Tobago Racing Authority secretary David Loregnard, the authority held a meeting on April 12 and after considering the evidence of both De Silva jr and groom Harold Balgobin they took the decision to fine and ban the trainer.

But groom Balgobin was completely exonerated from any blame in the matter.

The TTRA acting in acordance with the provisions 100 (b) (4) of the Rules of Racing imposed the fined and ban on the young trainer.

De Silva jr was banned from Tuesday until May 16.

And the TTRA further disqualified the five-year-old American-bred mare and ordered the placings in the race to be altered now making Le Fabuleux Dansur the winner. Uram who was third in the event moves up to second, Trini Calling to third and Salute The Colours is now fourth.

Popular owner/breeder/trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj was handed a six months ban in May 2002, when a banned substance was found in one of his stable runners.

Meanwhile, turfites have seen the last of three-year-old Karamazov who was put down after injuring himself in the 1200 metres race for maidens on Saturday last.

ARC president Gerard Ferreira, himself a trainer was fined $50 for incorrect colours on Carib Time, winner of the opener on Saturday last and another trainer, Gary Hearn was slapped with a $100 fine for delaying the departure of horses from the parade ring and pre-race parade.

Jockey Jody Arneaud was also made to pay $50 for disobeying the starter’s instructions.

And nine-year-old gelding Entertainer who returned lame after the fifth race has been banned from racing again until July 22 with an option of retiring.
