TT cyclists shine at Grand Prix

Top sprinter Elisha Greene opened with a win for the homesters in the 3,000 metres event for international cyclists and followed that up with a victory over 4,000 metres moments later. And Azikwe Kellar later triumphed in the 500 metres event which also featured a large competitive field.

In the 3,000 metres race, Greene kept out Barbadian John Cumberbatch for the top spot. England’s Adam Duggleby claimed third place.

And an hour or so later, it was Greene again who took the spotlight in the 4,000 meteres race when he disposed of a similarly competitive field to earn another medal for Trinidad and Tobago. Another local boy Winzie Mohammed secured the silver medal ahead of Jason Perryman of Barbados who took third place.

In the 500 metres race Kellar literallly left the field in the dust as he hit the finish line ahead of Greene and Barbadian Jason Forde.

Meanwhile veteran cyclist Gene Samuel surprised the field when he won the feature 10,000 metres race for international cyclists.

The former national cyclist held off the challenge of Bajans Perryman and Forde who were second and third respectively.

Meanwhile Emile Abraham fresh from a second place finish at an international outing in the United States last week, won the international Devil Takes the Hindmost event, to the delight of the appreciative crowd.

Perryman finishes second and his countryman Jason Forde secured the bronze medal.

Kellar later beat Greene for his second gold medal in the Keiren event. Greene and Cumberbatch were second and third respectively.

A day later Greene teamed up with Abraham to claim the Madison International for the twin-island republic. Perryman joined forces with Daniel Holloway for second riding for Barbados and USA, while Duggleby and Charles Tennick received the bronze medal for England.

Greene then added more silverware to his cabinet when he won the 3000 metres Life Style Motors-sponsored race for international riders.

Holloway was second and Warren McKay of Guyana, third.
