Electronic media feeding immorality
Six months later, we are still gripped by fear. Murders have continued unabated and more crimes of violence occur each day, to friends and neighbours alike.
What changes the human heart? When did this violence begin and who feeds the hearts of these men and women with such ferocity that they would turn on their fellow human beings? Can we put a stop to it?
We can if we would look for the source. We must admit that we have allowed the electronic media free reign as to what form of entertainment they offer; radio show hosts whose topics of conversation are perverted and demeaning, television programming that is too often violent, materialistic and vulgar, and music that is either suggestive or outright immoral, with materialism and self-gratification glorified in the urban rap culture and dancehall dub.
Video clubs offer both foreign and local pornography, containing all manner of depravity to rent or sell for the “almighty dollar”, but we as modern men and women no longer believe in censorship, we believe that each individual should have the freedom to choose whatever manner of entertainment we desire. We refuse to submit to being guided by morality and truth. Many on reading this would snicker, whose morality?
Well we are living with the result of years of materialism and immorality fuelled by a philosophy of “selfism”. With self-control viewed as inhibiting, our good government’s thrust for abstinence education is criticised as it seeks to teach our school children to be pure and self-controlled. What rubbish!
The facts speak for themselves. We won’t get young men and women who are self-controlled by teaching by word and example, that “if it make me feel good, it is perfectly okay.” We have tried it and we are living with the results.
We keep promoting selfish values to our youth, who so often lack strong family and environmental support. The tools being offered can only dehumanise and cause them to follow base animal instincts, fuelled by what they perceive as their ‘right’ to take advantage of the weak. So with gun in hand, they carry out their self-centered agenda.
