Caroni Savannah Road win final

On Good Friday at the Pierre Road Recreation Ground, Charlieville, Chaguanas, Caroni Savannah Road batted first and chalked up 229 for eight wickets after which they dismissed Supersonics for 164 runs in 33.4 overs.

Batting brilliantly for Caroni were Lochan Bajraj (50) and captain Rajindra Poorai (40), and taking wickets for Supersonics were Roy Forrester (three for 36) and Kisshore Ragoonath (two for 22). Making a desperate effort to get the runs for Supersonics were Andrew Richards with a well-played 57 and Shazam Mohammed (31).

But Cedric Paul copped the “Man-of-the-Match” award with a penetrative spell of bowling bagging three wickets for 26 while Navin Mungroo ckaimed two for 27 to dash whatever hopes Supersonics had of an upset.

Dudnath Ramkessoon, first vice-president of the TTCB, formally met the players before the start of the match. In a short address he told them to enjoy the game as cricket was essentially organised at this level to bring communities together to live in harmony.
