Teen World delegates dance to the tassa beat

The international delegates — Anett Maximovic (Hungary), Laura Leigh (Canada), Kyra Roberton (Australia), Ashley Alfonzo (Trinidad and Tobago), Brenda Rodriguez (Peru), Yevgeniya Kalpanko ( Ukraine), Irita Adolescente (Mexico), Alirize Alberts (South Africa), Dajana Van Den Broeck (Germany), Elevia Denisse (Panama), Fabiola a Plaza Diaz (Puerto Rico) and Shenique Whyrms (Bahamas) — not only showed off their dance moves but their fashion style, as well, before a mixed crowd of locals and foreigners. This was a pre-show to the final round of the competition which is due to take place at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, on Saturday, from 8.30 pm.

The Miss Teen World, in its second year, was organised by local pageant coordinator Mahendra Rampersad who also promotes the Miss India TnT pageant.

Even before this year’s edition is over, Rampersad already has his heart set on taking Miss Teen World, his brain child, to another country next year.

“I believe that the Miss Teen representative of the various countries should be given the opportunity to go to the next level of Miss Teen World.

The girls compete in talent, swimwear, evening gown and national costumes contests as a part of the overall Miss Teen World pageant,” he said. Twenty-three girls will be present at the final show where they will appear in swimsuit and evening gown.

The Crowne Plaza show started with a dance item by the Caribbean Circuit Vikash School of Dance. This was followed by the introduction of the delegates in their national costumes.

Former calypso monarch Denyse Plummer entertained the audience with a medley of her soca tunes.

Yesterday, the delegates were to be taken to Maracas Beach for a photo shoot in swim wear. These shots will be shown on the night of the competition.

The winner of Miss Teen World will receive a trophy and US$40,000 in prizes.
