Tobago supermarket gutted by fire

About 20 workers have been thrown on the breadline following the blaze which swept through Pablo’s Supermarket, at Argyle, 18 miles from Scarborough, at about 12.30am.

A restaurant, on the upper floor of the two-storey building, was also destroyed. The establishment, a popular liming spot in the area, was owned and operated by Paul “Pablo” Charles.

It is believed that the fire started at the front of the supermarket located on the ground floor. By the time firemen from the Roxborough Station arrived and who were stationed about 400 metres away, the building was engulfed in flames. Nothing was saved.

Although no one was injured, losses have been estimated at well over $1 million.

Sgt Neil Adams, of Roxborough Police, is continuing investigations.
