Bollywood Film Awards comes to TT

Dandona, chairman of the Bollywood Group of Companies, and Anthony Maharaj, film producer/director and CEO of CL Communications who have long shared common views and goals, have joined forces to bring the first colossal Indo-Caribbean event outside of India.

Through this event, the producers envision building a bridge for cultural exchange to eliminate the geographical barriers and boundaries through the media, events and entertainment. This is the first time in TT’s history that a Bollywood Movie Awards function will take place here. The awards were instituted with the realisation that the people of Indian origin, living in North America and the Caribbean retain a warm and vibrant link with their motherland through the medium of movies and music.

Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman, heart-throbs and superstars of the sixties, will be the recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to the Motion Picture Industry of India awards at the eighth annual Bollywood Movie Awards carded for Centre of Excellence, Macoya, on June 10.

Khanna, with his handsome looks, cute smile, naughty eyes caused mass hysteria with the women and his hit films such as: Aradhna, Do Raaste, Safar, Sacha Jhutha, Kati Patang, Anand, Amar Prem, Bawarchi, Namak Haram, Andaaz, Daag, Aan Milo Sajna and Mehbooba which won him critical acclaim.

Aman, one of the sexiest sirens to hit the big screen, revolutionised Indian cinema by bringing an element of sensuality never seen before. A former Miss India, Aman’s talent was tapped in films such as Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Roti Kapda, Aur Makan, Dharam Veer, Don, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Qurbani and Kalabaaz.

The Bollywood Group of Companies has played host to hundreds in the Indian film industry, business tycoons, socialites, as well as mainstream American personalities such as Michael Jackson, Richard Gere, Sharon Stone, Steven Seagal, Tyra Banks, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jean Claude Vandamme, Gerry Hall, Ismail Merchant, Shekhar Kapur, David Hasselhoff, the late Senator Patrick Moynihan (former US Ambassador to India) and Congressman B Gillman just to name a few.

Stars from Shah Rukh Khan to Aishwarya Rai (Miss World) have performed at the Bollywood Awards.

The most extensive and elaborate preparations are under way to make the Bollywood Awards night a spectacular and dazzling event, which will outshine even the movie spectaculars. No effort will be spared to make this event both different and memorable.

India’s leading stars who will perform at the Bollywood Awards are Akshay Kumar, Dino Morea, Urmila Matondkar, Karisma Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Chunky Panday, Kunal Ganjawala, Alisha Chinoy, Sukhwinder Singh, Amir Jamal, Anuradha Sriram and Tanaz Currim

TT-based singers Indar Kanhai and Ravi Bissambhir will be also performing that night.

Over 270 million people in over 90 countries around the globe will witness the annual event on television.
