T&T Elite get first b-ball victory

In the first match, Starker Nets led by national junior player Jameel King, scored an 80-68 victory over Republic Bank Arrows.

It was Starker Nets’ second win from as many matches, while Arrows were playing their first match of the season.

In the feature event both teams went into the match having lost their opening encounters.

Elite smarting from a 74-66 loss to National Flour Mills on May 17, enjoyed a slim one-point lead at half-time 45-44.

In the third quarter, the youthful squad went on a 14-5 run with point guard Vonelle Applewhite scoring 11 of his match-high 21 points that helped paced his team to a commanding 70-55 lead when the stanza closed.

In the fourth and final quarter, Trailblazers, beaten by Caledonia Clippers 100-59 on May 15, were outclassed in every department as the team dropped their second match in as many outings.

The zone is in its 17th season with 17 clubs playing in three divisions— Men’s First and Second; and Women.

Matches are played on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
