Chookolingo wins estate matter
The matter was initiated in 1993 against Daniel by his mother, Cecilia, sister Cindi Chookolingo-Da Costa, and brother Rex Chookolingo, who challenged his authority as executor and asked the court to appoint Mrs Cecilia Chookolingo instead as executor. They claimed in their writ that Daniel fraudulently sold properties of the estate and had not accounted to them.
In response, Daniel produced full accounts for the assets and claimed that absolutely all decisions made were in accordance with the wishes of the late “Choko”, founder of the TT Mirror and Sunday Punch newspapers.
On four previous occasions, none of the plaintiffs appeared in court causing Stollmeyer to assess costs of $3,000 for non appearance.
In dismissing the matter by Cecilia Chookolingo, Stollmeyer also awarded costs to Daniel in the substantive matter, an amount still to be assessed.
Attorney for Daniel, Odai Ramischand said, he was always confident that his client would be exonerated, and described the lawsuit as misguided.
Legal sources put these expenses to be taxed at close to $100,000.
