Bring back police/army patrols

The SJBA executive met in an emergency session on Tuesday to discuss matters relating to the continuous crime within the country. After a unanimous vote, the committee made a decision to write Joseph requesting the re-introduction of joint Defence Force/ police patrols.

The association also wants additional resources in terms of manpower and equipment to be allocated to the north eastern division of the police service, including the “enhancement” of the community policing unit in the San Juan area.

In Mazely’s memory, the SBJA plans to hold an inter-faith service and candlelight vigil outside Republic Bank, San Juan where the businessman was gunned down in a shootout with bandits last Friday.

The vigil, the SJBA said, will be the beginning of a more aggressive response by the business community to rising crime.

The SJBA has described the murder of Mazely as “a reflection of an ever common phenomenon of attacks upon business people in San Juan and surrounding districts.”

It has stated that if no positive and identifiable movement is taken to combat the scourge of crime within a reasonable amount of time, “more drastic action to obtain results” would be taken.c
