TSTT, Laqtel sign interconnection deal
In a statement yesterday, Laqtel founder Dr Joseph Laquis said the agreement was concluded after months of negotiations and will cover mobile and fixed traffic between TSTT and Laqtel’s respective networks.
Laquis declined to give details of the agreement, except to say that its terms were favourable and “the consumer will be the beneficiary of reduced rates.” He added that Laqtel will use the rates contained in the agreement to guide its business and marketing strategies as it prepares to launch its CDMA system in August.
TSTT’s monopoly over the domestic telecom sector was broken in June 2005, when Laqtel and Digicel were awarded mobile phone licences by the Telecommunications Authority of TT.
