Calm before the storm at Santa Rosa Park
With 12 races on programme, turfites will be taxed to the limit to come up with winners and escape leaving Santa Rosa with empty wallets.
From the entries in each of the 12 races, though some fields are small there is a very competitive edge to the programme.
In each of the events on the day, there are three or four possible winners, down to the feature Bookmakers Association Guineas Stakes for the three-year-olds, the first jewel on the local Triple Crown, and the sub-feature Fairchance Racing Service Eric “Colt” Durant Memorial Turf Handicap.
From previous form and gallops put in to date, most money should go on Sara’s Music, Jacobite, Angel Of Music, Greek Princess with a better than longshot Phantomoftheopera.
Still there are others who can be a fly in the ointment in Windjammer and Bluff Bid, along with the Jamaican-bred Harbour Master who could be anything.
And remembering the owner, Bernard Dulal-Whiteway and trainer Jack Debideen surprise success in last year’s Royal Oak Derby with Border Dispute and Diplomacy in the Guardian Life St Ann’s Stakes, they must be respected.
Only a small field of six will face the starter in the “Colt” Durant race, but any of four can hit the wire ahead. invincibility is in excellent form at the moment and should go to post the pre-race favourite, but not far behind will be grey stablemate Peace Offering.
Crown Point is in good heart and has an excellent chance of pulling it off, while there is a lot to be said of the improving Carib Time and the consist ent Royal Miss.
The card promises to serve up some very thrilling finishes to the massive holiday crowd expected.
