High drama at Skinner Park
A MAN wanted in connection with last week’s daylight robbery in which an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) was cut from its Debe location and $300,000 stolen, was arrested during a major police exercise in Tobago over the weekend.
Watched by dozens of excited schoolchildren, the handcuffed, masked suspect arrived from Tobago to Skinner Park in San Fernando via a Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (SAUTT) helicopter which landed around midday.
The suspect, police said, was detained in Tobago in connection with a robbery in which a Scotiabank’s ATM machine, located at SS Erin Road, Debe, was cut from its holding bay with a blow-torch.
Before robbing the ATM, the bandits beat and robbed a watchman on the compound of Food City Supermarket where the ATM was located.
When the helicopter landed, two SAUTT officers took the suspect out of the chopper to an unmarked police vehicle. Heavily-armed policemen took up strategic positions around Skinner’s Park while curious onlookers and students from the nearby ASJA Girls and Boys Colleges, looked on.
The suspect was then taken to the San Fernando CID where he was expected to be placed on several identification parades.
