Cops continue search for killers
A LARGE contingent of officers from several units within the Police Service swooped down on Thompson Gardens and Tarouba Village near San Fernando yesterday as they continued the manhunt for three suspects involved in the weekend hijacking of a couple, which left one dead and the other hospitalised in critical condition.
Yesterday’s search followed a similar exercise on Saturday night. Up to late yesterday, the suspects remained at large despite the best efforts of officers from the Southern Division Homicide Bureau, the National Helicopter Services, the Police K9 Unit, the Crime Suppression Unit (CSU), the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) and the Ste Madeline and San Fernando CID.
Adesh Singh, 19, remained warded in critical condition at San Fernando General Hospital yesterday recovering from extensive injuries he suffered during the hijacking incident which left his friend Reshma Boodoo, 19, dead.
An autopsy carried out at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday revealed Boodoo died of massive internal injuries caused when she was thrown out of a moving vehicle. The autopsy was done by pathologist Dr Eastlyn Mc Donald Burris.
According to reports, Singh and Boodoo were hijacked by three bandits — two of whom were said to be of African descent while the other was of East Indian origin — in an attempt to steal Singh’s Nissan B14 Sentra on Saturday night.
Police were told by witnesses that Singh and Boodoo were bundled into the back of the car then thrown out of the vehicle along the Tarouba Link Road. Moments later, the bandits crashed head-on into a Toyota Hilux van and escaped into nearby bushes.
When police arrived at the scene, Boodoo was already dead and a critically wounded Singh was bleeding heavily from several injuries.
Boodoo’s relatives said her funeral has been tentatively carded for Thursday, one day after she would have celebrated her 20th birthday.
